"As you may or may not know the new AGE OF CONSENT re-issue has just come out on STEAMHAMMER SPV, and we have put together the first video from it. The track we completed is PERFECT MANSIONS (Mountains Of The Sun). It is not a huge massive budget production. It is more of a simple home movie type experience. It was shot just a few weeks ago, by our longtime friend and engineer Ed Warrin, with one camera in several locations. I then spent several days learning how to edit. We have come up with something that I believe represents the attitude and the feeling of what the Group is all about. It has a strong live energy about it, possibly because it was shot just a few days after we returned from our latest European performances. It is a kind of guide or overture to the VIRGIN STEELE Experience, as it has all the various Barbaric-Romantic elements that you've come to know & expect from us over the years. There is a really nice ambiance about the clip. It captures a very specific mood and moment in time, and shows a nice part of our Island where we live...I hope you will enjoy it"

Markus Wosgien: Hi Luca, thank you for the interview and for your time. Here we go with my first question: after the official split of RHAPSODY OF FIRE a lot of rumors about the same split spread around the net. Do you want to tell or precise something about it?

Luca Turilli: Hi Markus, it’s a real pleasure for me to exchange some words with you and to give some information to our fans at the same time. First of all let me tell you that Alex (Staropoli) and I had a lot of fun while hearing some comments following the announcement of the friendly split of RHAPSODY OF FIRE. In particular I heard the comments of some people imagining a lot of weird things or thinking that I was the one who left the band because of this or that reason. Honestly this is really absurd and nothing is more untrue.

The only reality is that in the end of 2010 Alex and I, together - and I underline: together -, agreed that after FROM CHAOS TO ETERNITY (the 10^th official RHAPSODY OF FIRE album which closed the cycle of releases related with our saga), we would have went on with our careers separately. This because after 20 years of great and unique collaboration the feeling, while working together, was not the same anymore and so, due to the strong respect we have for each other, we decided to take this important decision.

We also agreed everything about the way the band split and the fact of keeping for both the name RHAPSODY, in respect of all the unique efforts and the personal economical investment we both made in these years to make this name stronger and stronger in the market. So, again, all was decided really in a friendly way between two people respecting themselves at all levels. Therefore no conspiracy theories or something like that ha ha, instead just the honest will of proceeding separately in order to find new artistic stimulations. Be also sure that there won’t be any competition between the two RHAPSODY bands, we are too old for those kind of games ha ha. I love Alex and want for him the best possible success. I also take the chance of wishing the best to the new members of RHAPSODY OF FIRE: TOM HESS and ROBERTO DE MICHELI. They are great people and ultra-skilled musicians, a sure guarantee of great music at the highest artistic levels for all the fans of Alex and Fabio’s band!

MW: Let’s speak about your new album. What can you tell us about it?

LT: Honestly, this album is very important for me, Alex Holzwarth, Patrice and Dominique and personally it is the one I always dreamed to record. The basic composition process lasted around 5 months. In this period of time I worked at the rhythm of 12-14 hours per day and, while very hard because very demanding mentally and spiritually, this was one of the most rewarding sessions of composition of my whole life. It rarely happened I had so much fun playing the guitar, the keyboards or my beloved piano and creating original classical parts, cinematic interludes, orchestrations and all the rest.

Now all the songs are ready and I am actually in the process of arranging everything. As you know I don’t hire external people to orchestrate the music but I do all by myself writing the music for each section of the orchestra, the choirs etc. and this sometimes can be a very long and hard process stealing a lot of time and energy ha ha.

I can not deny that this is a very ambitious album because of the investment, artistic vision etc., and all the people working on it, NUCLEAR BLAST included, are thinking the same. That’s why in the upcoming months of intensive studio work I want to go on dedicating myself night and day to it, without thinking to anything else. The production of the album just started and ALEX HOLZWARTH recorded most of his drum parts already. I will release more news about the album production, month after month, from my new website (WWW.LTRHAPSODY.COM), starting from the end of January 2012.

MW: Speaking about the production, is it true that for your new LT’s RHAPSODY album you changed your working team completely?

LT: Yes, after many years of work in Wolfsburg at the court of our friend SASCHA PAETH, I decided to start this new artistic adventure with a different team of people. Sascha  and the other friends of the Gate Studio (Miro, Olaf, Robert, Simon etc.) are a winning team and their help in the past was really important for RHAPSODY. But it’s since many years already that Alex and I took the productions in our hands becoming producers of our own albums, despite Sascha remaining always fundamental as engineer and mixer man. His mixes will remain legendary and our list of thanks will be never long enough for all the professional contribution he gave. All the years of work, fun and sufferance in the Gate studios of Wolfsburg will surely remain unforgettable and are carved in our heart.

For LT’s RHAPSODY and the new band adventure I decided to change the studio and the main man behind the console. We are now recording the new album at the BACKYARD STUDIO of Kempten,Germany. Our new engineer and main mixer man is the same owner of the studio and his name is SEBASTIAN ROEDER, the person who worked for RHAPSODY OF FIRE in the last worldwide tour making real miracles while mixing our music live. Apart from being a talented engineer he is a great person and he shares with us the love for this style of music. To resume, the new album will be produced by me as usual, while Sebastian will take care of the engineering, mixing and mastering process.

MW: What can you tell us about the new singer?

LT: As you can imagine this will be one of the most important news to be given in the upcoming months but for the moment we prefer to keep all top secret. Speaking about singers please allow me to say a few words about OLAF HAYER, singer and talented voice of LUCA TURILLI, my old solo band. The truth is that, as many people could already imagine, I stopped my solo activity as LUCA TURILLI definitely, willing to dedicate myself to LT’s RHAPSODY at full time. That’s why I want to publicly thank Olaf for the fundamental contribution he gave to our solo albums. All the 3 albums of the trilogy entered the charts establishing some important records and this was possible mainly because of my friend Olaf. Who knows, maybe sooner or later we’ll still have the chance to work together, never say never.  

MW: And what about the future plans of LT’s RHAPSODY?

LT: Well, the most important thing I can tell you is that our tour agency ALL ACCESS is actually working hard and preparing a worldwide tour. Considering that the new album will be released in June 2012, the plan is to start the tour a couple of months later in order to promote it at the four sides of the world. It will be an infinite pleasure for me, Alex, Patrice and Dominique to meet all our old and new fans once again and to play in front of them the new LT’s RHAPSODY songs and the old RHAPSODY/RHAPSODY OF FIRE hits. Surely there will be also a couple of surprises for the one who liked my old solo albums too!

MW: Thank you Luca and all the best to you, Alex, Dominique and Patrice for the start of this new artistic adventure.

De l’agressivité avec, pour fil rouge, une de ces accroches mélodiques façon panzer des compositions, voilà ce qui fait que FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH nous la jouent option Attila du metal, avec des bombes à répétition en pleine face à l’image de 4 des puissants singles tirés de l’album : « Under And Over It », « Coming Down », « Back For More », « The Pride » hymnique à souhait ou encore de « 100 Ways To Hate » et j’en passe vu que l’album renferme de nombreuses pépites du genre, dont l’inattendue et poignante ballade « Remember Everything » au milieu de ce déferlement furieux. La subtilité dans un gant d’acier ou de Heavy / Groove Metal dans chacun des morceaux, quoi.

Le départ du précédent bassiste Matt Snell, fin 2010, a vu le producteur Kevin Churko (FFDP , OZZY OSBOURNE, SLASH) prendre la basse lors de l’enregistrement, en plus de s’occuper de la production de tout l’album et l’homme est incontestablement talentueux, étant donné qu « American Capitalist » offre un relief dynamique des titres, une clarté et une aggressivité orientée comme il faut, c'est-à-dire un rendu efficace.

Ce son de basse, de double grosses caisses, de guitares et ce rendu vocal, quel régal !

Les esprits chagrins n’aimeront que moyennement ce Metal joué pied au plancher avec les tripes, alternant chant rauque et clair par moments, superbes riffs et soli de guitares, mais ils seront bien les seuls : FFDP on aime ou pas, mais quand on aime, c’est à l’image de leur musique, à fond ;)

En digne successeur de l’acclamé « War Is The Answer « (2009) (chronique ici) , “American Capitalist” vaut le détour !

STRATOVARIUS SAYS FAREWELL TO DRUMMER JÖRG MICHAEL

 Stratovarius, one of the most successful Finnish acts with over 2.5 million albums sold, says farewell to longtime drummer Mr. Jörg Michael who wil leave the band after 15 years for personal reasons. Jörg will play all the remaining tour dates until the end of January, and will celebrate with a special Finnish "Farewell Jörg" tour in Finland November 18th - 26th.

 Jörg joined the band in 1995 and the first Stratovarius album he played on was Episode (1996). He played on nine albums and nearly 1000 shows with the band.

"The rest of us just has to accept Jörg's decision with a lot of sadness and wish him all the best for the future. But we can also assure that the band will still go on", says the singer Mr. Timo Kotipelto.

The band and Jörg are not going completely separate ways though, since Jörg will still be working for the band with his booking agency Twisted Talent Concerts. "Our long journey of over fifteen years together has not ended yet, as Jörg remains among our background forces - and we couldn't be more happy about that. Not only has he been a great drummer but also a close friend and a true professional. We're honoured to have Jörg by our side for this farewell Tour. We can't wait to rock with our 'German Steamroller' one last time! These shows will be unforgettable for all of us", Kotipelto continues.

Stratovarius released their latest studio album "Elysium" in the beginning of the year. The brand new video for the second single "Under Flaming Skies" can be checked on earMUSIC official Channel.

Le Sonisphere 2011 a réservé de très belles surprises, bien sûr à Amnéville se sont produits les plus grands sur les deux scènes principales, mais pas seulement, car sur une scène annexe, un coup de projecteur permettait aussi de découvrir des valeurs montantes et BLOODY MARY se démarque du lot, indiscutablement !!! Merci à son chanteur-guitariste-fondateur-manager Pierre Fargetton d’avoir tapé la discute backstage, vu que c’était une belle occasion d’en savoir plus sur le groupe et d’obtenir un galette à chroniquer et quelle galette !! « We Rock, You Suck ! » est un véritable coup de cœur avec un Rock, Hard Rock, léché, péchu, entraînant, bref; du pur plaisir à tous les niveaux que le Rock permet et ils sont nombreux :) On en redemande de ces morceaux aussi copieux autant au niveau vocaux, guitares, que mélodies et refrains hymniques puisque le train Hard Rock est ici lancé à pleine course. Comment ? Trop imagé ce commentaire ? Oui et bien, plongez dans les 10 morceaux en attaque, sensuels de BLOODY MARY et vous verrez de quoi il retourne

Et côté clip, la sensualité et le Rock sont en pleine(s) forme(s) avec une pointe d’humour qui sert de cerise sur un gâteau déjà fort goûtu musicalement parlant évidemment

BLOODY MARY est donc un coup de cœur et ce groupe de Nancy ira loin: il en a assurément le potentiel !

Ah ANVIL, quel groupe quand même! Non seulement les canadiens nous delivrent avec passion, assiduité depuis plus de trois décennies un Heavy Metal qui peut se vanter de faire voler les chevelures et secouer les têtes sur de fort bien calibrés morceaux d’un Heavy goutu à souhait, mais aussi le groupe peut-il se targuer d’être humainement des plus hautement recommandables. D’ailleurs le très beau docu hommage au groupe « Anvil ! The Story Of Anvil» récompensé par de nombreux prix, apporte un regard émouvant, humain et tendre sur une formation que le succès aurait plus que tort de bouder. Justement, le dernier opus en date de ANVIL devrait sans problèmes se voir créditer de toute l’attention qu'il mérite, étant donné que ce « Juggernaut Of Justice » est simplement tiré du meilleur tonneau Heavy avec tout ce qu’il faut pour s’éclater au coup de tonnerre de chacun des nouveaux morceaux. Dès le premier et morceau titre de l’abum, les chiens de l’enfer Heavy sont lâchés et que c’est bon !

Non stop, les riffs et vocaux de Steve « Lips » Kudlow sont brûlants comme l’enfer, les tambours de guerre de Robb Reiner assurent en diable du début à la fin et Glenn Five à la basse fait partie du trio gagnant. A l’écoute de « Juggernaut Of Justice » le lecteur chauffe, les cervicales aussi ! Pour calmer un peu le jeu, l’étonnant morceau final Jazz / Hard « Swing Thing » vaut son pesant de riffs

Vivement le live, dont on devine facilement qu’ANVIL va y déployer l’artillerie lourde, étant donné que les compositions de ce quatorzième album, sentent l’intention du live dans leur tournure et la production coup de poing due à Bob Marlette (OZZY / MARYLIN MANSON) D'ailleurs, entendre le très hymnique « Fukeneh! » est emblématique de ça :)

ANVIL a absolument plus que sa place comme référence aux côtés de ses collègues que sont MOTÖRHEAD, METALLICA, GUNS’N ROSES
Alors « Juggernaut Of Justice » ? A se procurer d’urgence !! ;)

Après 30 ans de carrière le « Doc » jouera enfin à Paris.
Il était temps car ce groupe légendaire du rock sudiste effectuera en juin prochain sa tournée d’adieu en Europe.

Donc pour la première fois et la dernière fois à Paris, venez vivre et partager votre passion de ce style musical bien trop rare par chez nous.

Il a fallu attendre 30 ans et leur tournée d’adieu pour pouvoir enfin entendre en Live sur une scène parisienne des « Lonesome Guitar », « Ain’t No Fool » et autres « Southern Man » qui ont décrassés nos cages à miel d’adolescent.

Alors ne boudez pas votre plaisir et profitez de ce premier et surtout dernier passage parisien pour venir les fêter dignement.

Rassemblons nous, tous ensemble autour d’un groupe mythique du Southern Rock au confluent des divers styles musicaux majeurs du sud des Etats-Unis.

ORDEN OGAN font du bon Heavy Power Metal assez typique du style pratiqué outre-Rhin et malgré ce que le chanteur / guitariste,  Seeb, a affirmé en anglais au public, non, ce n’était pas la première fois que le groupe venait à Paris. Il faut avouer que leur précédent et véritable baptême du feu, s’était fait sans gloire, le 20 novembre 2010, dans un Trabendo parisien quasi vide lors de leur set, qui et on se demande encore pourquoi, était placé en ouverture sur une affiche présentant TIAMAT / MELECHESH / STONEMAN. Erreur de casting d'alors, vite réparée ce 11 avril 2011, puisqu’aux côtés du Heavy de GRAVE DIGGER, ORDEN OGAN avait enfin sa place. Classique, mélodique, énervé, le groupe s’en est plutôt bien sorti face à une foule assez réceptive au style pratiqué, notamment lors de leur morceau phare « We Are Pirates » à la Running Wild et dont l’ex-Running Wild, Majk Moti (guitare) vient d’ailleurs faire une apparition amicale sur le clip délirant du groupe :)

GRAVE DIGGER , c’est du Heavy qui est devenu un classique depuis 20 ans de carrière et même plus, avec la voix immédiatement reconnaissable de son leader et chanteur: Chris Boltendahl et ses riffs, ses rythmiques ainsi que ses envolées guerrières, sur fond de mythologie inspirée des templiers, de la légende d’Excalibur, de la bible, entre autres. L’arrivée en kilt du chanteur a fait rugir le public d’une seule voix et c’est sans répit aucun, que le concert s’est déroulé, bien rodé, titres après titres qu'ils soient anciens et plus récents, tels que « The Last Supper », « Excalibur », « Knights Of The Cross », « Circle Of Witches », « Morgane  Le Fay »,  Chacun d'eux faisait mouche et après un retour en pantalon de Chris Boltendahl, suivi d’un déshabillage du guitariste Axel Ritt, qui s’est retrouvé torse nu pour ses soli, et ses acrobaties, option: au sol, debout, sur le kit de la batterie de Stefan Arnold, pour exemples et le tout sans cesser de délivrer la puissance.. chapeau ! 

Au passage, il est à noter que le batteur possède un jeu direct et efficace, avec ce qu’il faut de variété pour coller à l’ambiance des morceaux. Quant à H.P. Katzenburg, ou « The Reaper », toujours en costume de faucheuse et masque sur le visage, celui-ci a joué plusieurs roles: à savoir, arriver en jouant de la cornemuse, ou interpéter des saynètes avec corde de pendu et enfin, jouer un solo plutôt bien fait, avec fumigène d’ambiance bien présent. Jens Becker (en parlant de RUNNING WILD, le bassiste a côtoyé il y longtemps le groupe, lui aussi) était plus discret sur scène, mais non moins redoutablement carré dans ses rythmiques

C’est donc au terme d’un concert bien exécuté, que GRAVE DIGGER a joué le rappel sans lequel un gig du groupe ne serait pas complet : « Heavy Metal Breakdown » qui a beau avoir plus de 26 ans, fait toujours aussi bien son office :)

Chris Boltendahl ayant prévenu la foule qu’en cas de stage diving ou de mosh pit, il stopperait net le concert, le public s’est bien tenu, sauf quelques tentatives avortées de réaliser ce qui était défendu, ce qui a donné un chanteur en plein chant, en train de froncer les sourcils et d’indiquer d'un index impérieux qu’il n’était pas question de monter sur scène. L’idée est bonne et c'est appréciable de ne pas se faire écraser au premier rang et à la fois, c’était quand même amusant à voir, un chanteur charismatique qui joue les dresseurs de fauves, avec le pied en avant, prêt à repousser tout 'stage diver' en puissance

Un salut de fin plus tard et surtout avec un sourire et une disponibilité à toute épreuve, Chris Boltendahl et ses comparses se sont volontiers laissé photographier et saluer, se montrant très accessibles pour un public ravi de les approcher

Un bémol à souligner, le groupe a clos son concert avec un quart d’heure d’avance sur le planning prévu et la raison supposée en est que la setlist a été respectée, mais que ce sont les apartés du chanteur avec le public, qui n’ont pas été aussi nombreux que prévu, d’où une avance de 15 minutes sur l’horaire, les morceaux ayant été enchainés sans speech intermédiaire. C'est clair que quand ça joue aussi bien, on en aimerait toujours plus :)

Très bon concert de pur Heavy Metal, en tout cas, et y être a été un must pour tout fan de très bon Heavy, executé dans les règles de l’art :)
